According to the report of the South African Daily News website on March 23, the Department of Trade and Industry of South Africa has formally submitted an application for seeking exemption from steel and aluminum duties to the United States. The ambassador of South Africa to the United States also recently traded to the National Security Council, the State Council and the United States. The representative office negotiated that South Africa's steel and aluminum products exported to the United States accounted for only 1.6% and 1% of its total imports, and would not pose a threat to the U.S. national security and steel and aluminum industries.
