J May Dei Trvor iron and steel works was founded in 1913. It is a well-known factory in the past century. Due to fierce competition in the international market and poor management, the factory was once in a predicament and faced with bankruptcy. In April 2016, the China River Steel Group signed with the government of Serbia to buy the J May Dei Trvor iron and steel plant for 46 million euros, retain its 5000 employees and set up a Serbia Steel Co., Ltd. In December of that year, the iron and steel plant realized profits and reversed losses for 7 consecutive years.
