The US standard carbon seamless steel tube is tested for mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of the test method are divided into two categories, one is a tensile test and the other is a hardness test.

The tensile test is made of a sample of seamless steel pipe. The tensile tester pulls the sample to the point where it breaks, and then measures one or more mechanical properties. Usually only the tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and tensile strength are measured. Reduce the rate of area. Tensile testing is the most basic test method for mechanical properties of metals. Almost all metal materials provide tensile tests as long as mechanical properties are required. In particular, tensile testing is the only way to test the mechanical properties of materials because their hardness is difficult to test.

The hardness test is to press the hard indenter slowly into the surface of the specimen according to the specified conditions, and then test the indentation depth or size to determine the hardness of the material. Hardness testing is the simplest, fastest, and easiest to implement method for testing the mechanical properties of materials. The hardness test is non-destructive and the material's hardness and tensile strength values are approximately converted. The hardness of the material can be converted into a tensile strength value with great practical significance.

Since the tensile test is not easy to test, and the conversion from hardness to strength is very convenient, more and more people only test the hardness of the material and test its strength less. Especially due to the advanced and innovative manufacturing technology, some raw materials can not directly test the hardness of the material, such as seamless steel pipe, stainless steel, etc., can now directly test the hardness. Therefore, there is a tendency to gradually replace the tensile test with a hardness test.
