On November 12, the European Commission made a preliminary ruling on anti-dumping investigations on seamless steel pipe products originating in China, and decided to implement a six-month temporary anti-dumping measure. The head of the Trade Relief and Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce made a statement on this.
The person in charge said that China is highly concerned and worried about the EU's recent trade protectionist tendencies in the steel sector. In spite of the active cooperation and defense of Chinese enterprises, the EU continues to use unfair and unreasonable “substitute countries” methods to lay off high tax rates and seriously damage the interests of Chinese enterprises. The Chinese government hopes that the EU will strictly abide by the relevant rules of the WTO and prudently use trade remedy measures to fully protect Chinese companies' defense rights.
The person in charge stressed that the root cause of the European steel dilemma lies in the lack of economic growth, rather than the impact of Chinese products. At the same time, China and the EU have broad cooperation space in the steel field. The development of China's steel industry will bring tangible benefits to the EU steel industry and equipment manufacturing industry. China is willing to strengthen exchanges and communication with the EU and properly solve the problems facing the current steel industry.
