  Skin turning of billets
The steel billet is a process for removing the surface defects and scale of the round billet and processing the specified outer diameter and a certain surface finish. The turning amount and turning accuracy are determined by the diameter of the billet and the type of steel. The amount of turning is shown in Table 4-2. The amount of turning varies according to the conditions of each factory, and is roughly in the range of 3.5-15 mm. The turning amount increases as the diameter of the billet increases. Stainless steel has more surface defects than ordinary carbon steel and low alloy steel, and its turning amount is also larger.
The surface finish is based on the surface properties of the extruded tube and is primarily based on factors associated with chevron defects. As shown in Table 4-1, carbon steel and low alloy steel must be below 50 microns and stainless steel should be below 25 microns.
A schematic diagram of the equipment for performing such processing is shown in Figure 4-2. The billet is fed into the center of the billet wagon by the loading device of the loading station 1, where it is fixed by the billet support roller (fixed) 2 and the feeding trolley (micro-motion), stops the rotation, but continues to advance until it enters the wagon Machine boring cutter head 4 inside. The cutter head is provided with a guiding device. Even if the billet is somewhat curved or the outer diameter is somewhat changed, the billet can be rotated and cut while being guided into the center of the cutter head, and the cut billet is fixed to the exit table through the outlet side support roller 7. Exit on the car 8. The above are commonly used car skin machines. Although the factories are different, the organization is basically the same.
